In the past, I operated on a flat fee and had clients pay me and send me their completed scripts before we spoke. I found I was cancelling and refunding some of the jobs because the script wasn’t far enough along for the Reader Ready service.
Reader Ready isn’t a screenwriting class or a story analysis company. My goal is to take a script that really is ready to be submitted to contests, producers, agents, etc. and make sure it’s polished. My service is about the nitpicky final steps that matter to readers - proofreading/editing/story continuity/scene header continuity/etc. You don’t want to make it easy for someone to get distracted or find a reason to reject your screenplay.
To that end, before a client sends me their entire script or payment, I'd like to make sure the project is at the right stage for Reader Ready. So to book a job, please e-mail me at elisa@readerready.net and send me your first four pages as well as a total page count. From the first four pages, I can tell if your screenplay is close enough to ready for this service, and I can generate a final invoice based on how many hours the job will take me. I’ll also send you a schedule. From there, you can decide if you want to proceed.
Feature-length screenplays up to 120 pages will cost between $175 and $300 depending on the time needed. TV scripts will be priced according to total page count. I also offer a flat rate to proofread/edit query letters at $35 a letter.
It’s my preference to work from PDF files and mark them up with notes and highlights and have you make the corrections into your original script. Everything you send out should really be 100% from you – every letter and punctuation mark should be typed by you. This is your script, and in my opinion, you can feel the most confident in your ownership when the original file hasn’t been touched by anyone else. However, if you would prefer to work a different way, just e-mail me at elisa@readerready.net and we can customize something that's better for you.
If I don't think your script is ready for a final proofread and edit yet, we can discuss options to get it there. Again, I don't do story consultation, although I can refer you to someone for that. But if you need help learning the basics of the screenplay format, we can arrange a price for video calls to show you how to create the flow of a script.
